I spent 30 years in financial services. In the process, I learned a huge amount about the financial system and about how money worked.
I have spent the last eight years as a money coach, learning about what actually drives money behaviour.
I learned what was really at the heart of my decision-making around money.
And it wasn’t the technical knowledge I had amassed.
What I learned was that every single one of my financial decisions was driven by scarcity.
The desire to avoid loss.
The fear that everything could disappear.
Minimising spending over maximising joy.
Pessimism over abundance.
———-
The technical knowledge wasn’t useless.
But it was overridden by subconscious fear.
And when money decisions are made from a fear state, they’re almost always suboptimal.
I knew a lot about money, but not very much about money and myself.
And because I knew a lot about money, I thought I knew what I was doing.
I didn’t.

So, if you’re asking yourself, “How do I make good money decisions?”, don’t make the same mistake I did.
Start by understanding what drives your money decisions. Then learn about how money works.
